Vesting

What is the difference between benefit service and vesting service?

Your benefit service is used in the pension formula to determine the amount of your monthly benefit. You receive one year of benefit service for each calendar year in which you work 1800 hours. Benefit Service is prorated if you work less than 1800 hours.

Vesting service determines whether or not you are eligible for a pension benefit. You receive one year of vesting service for each calendar year in which you work 1,000 hours or more.

Is military leave counted towards benefit or vesting service?
Military leave counts toward benefit and vesting service if you return to employment at Trinity Health within the period of time prescribed by law.
What are the Break in Service rules?
Your benefit and vesting service as of January 1, 2002, remains the same. Any benefit or vesting service forfeited under the old break in service rules will not be reinstated. After January 1, 2002, benefit and vesting service will always be reinstated regardless of future breaks in service.
What are the benefit service requirements?

Under the Trinity Health Retirement Program, one year of service is granted for 1,800 or more hours and prorated for less than 1,800.
