Survivor Benefits

What if I die before I retire?

If you die before your pension begins and you are vested, your beneficiary will receive a pre-retirement death benefit.

What if I die after I retire? If you have already retired from Trinity Health and have begun receiving your pension benefit as an annuity, your named survivor would continue receiving the pension benefit if the benefit option you elected allowed for a survivor benefit.
If I'm married, what happens if I die and I haven't elected a beneficiary? If you do not have a beneficiary on file, your spouse will automatically receive your vested benefit.
If I'm not married, what happens to my retirement benefits if I die?

If you are not married, your vested benefit will be paid to the beneficiary or beneficiaries you have selected on your beneficiary election form. If you have not filled out a form, your benefit will be paid to your estate.
